Island of Lamu, locked in times immemorial

Posted 1 year ago by pedro in response to avatar cynohn's question: How far behind the modern world are the people inhabiting Lamu Island? I heard stories.. (give a different answer) .

After flying for 90 minutes from Nairobi, in the Indian Ocean, you'll find the
unspoiled island of Lamu, Kenya's oldest existing city. There's only one car on the island, as the narrow streets solely bear monkey riding. Men hide under their toe-length white robes, and women hardly unveil their black purdah-covered faces. Natives travel by dhows, the traditional wooden tiny boats, which you can also try renting for a romantic Lamu archipelago trip. But negotiate!
